Roger Hartley, co-founder of Mitchell, Hartley & Bechtel Advisers, LLC, provides independent advice to asset management and wealth management entities and their owners seeking to advance their objectives by forming strategic partnerships, acquiring or divesting operations, raising capital to expand or provide liquidity, or restructuring their ownership relationships in order to assure continuity.

Mr. Hartley and his partners formed the firm, recognizing a shared vision for creating long term durable advisory relationships that are based on a deep understanding of individual client situations and a profound awareness of the evolution over time of client needs and objectives.   His sole focus at MHB is on advisory work and he is committed to providing conflict-free and client focused advice.

Prior to founding MHB, Mr. Hartley was Chief Operating Officer of Coast Asset Management, LLC, a long-established alternative investment manager in Santa Monica, California.  Prior to joining Coast in late 2007, Mr. Hartley was a Managing Director with Putnam Lovell in San Francisco.  At Putnam Lovell, Mr. Hartley completed numerous transactions in the asset management sector around the world.  He advised companies in both the traditional and alternative investment sectors as well as in related financial services industry sectors.  He has experience working with firms that draw their business from private client, retail and institutional segments.  Mr. Hartley has served as an advisor to a range of traditional asset management companies including Causeway Capital Management, Chicago Equity Partners, Fremont Investors and Nicholas|Applegate Capital Management.  His experience in the alternatives sector includes serving firms such as Coast Asset Management, Deerfield Capital Management, Evaluation Associates Capital Markets and ValueAct Capital Management.  Mr. Hartley has also worked successfully on behalf of a number of leading global financial services firms including Allianz, AXA, National Australia Bank and Royal Bank of Canada.  He has successfully represented his clients in many completed transactions with leading industry counterparties including Affiliated Managers Group, Colonial First State, Invesco and UBS among others.

Before launching his career as a strategic adviser to asset managers in 1997, Mr. Hartley spent over fifteen years in the international banking industry with Union Bank and Standard Chartered Bank.  Mr. Hartley gained a broad range of financial services experience including relationship management, merchant banking, investment banking, credit management and banking operations management through roles in California, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom.

In addition to his advisory, operational and strategic experience, Mr. Hartley has also served as a director or advisory board member of a number of entities. He is currently an independent trustee of the Del Rey Monarch Fund, an international equity mutual fund, and a senior advisor to Resurrection Capital, a start-up distressed debt manager. In the past, Mr. Hartley has been an advisory board member of Sarus Capital Management, LLC and of Simplify, LLC, a member of the board of managers of Coast Asset Management, LLC, and a director of the British American Chamber of Commerce of Northern California. Mr. Hartley holds the Series 7, 24, 63 and 79 securities licenses.
