Robert Kennedy, Managing Member of Mitchell, Hartley & Bechtel Advisers, LLC, is an experienced adviser to investment managers, related financial services businesses and their respective owners engaged in business sales, acquisitions, mergers, strategic partnerships, or ownership transitions. Mr. Kennedy’s exclusive focus at MHB is on advisory work and he is committed to providing clients with conflict-free advice.
Before joining MHB, Mr. Kennedy was an independent consultant. Prior to that, he was a senior asset management banker at Putnam Lovell NBF, which he joined in 1996. At Putnam Lovell, Mr. Kennedy advised clients on numerous successful buy-side and sell-side transactions involving traditional asset managers, alternative managers, private banking and related financial services firms. He represented clients on a variety of transaction engagements, including sales and purchases of equity stakes, full control sales, management buyout, divestitures of business units, public and private mergers.
Mr. Kennedy has served as an advisor to a range of leading asset management firms including AXA Investment Management, Fremont Investors and Nicholas|Applegate Capital Management. He has completed transactions in related financial services industry segments for companies such as Boston Private and Wadsworth Group. Mr. Kennedy has advised several large financial services firms on strategic asset management transactions including TIAA-CREF and UBS. He has also represented clients on transactions with leading counter parties such as Affiliated Managers Group, Barclays Global Investors, National Mutual Fund Management and US Bancorp.
Prior to his career in finance, Mr. Kennedy served as a Commissioned Officer in the Australian Army.
Mr. Kennedy earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, majoring in Finance, with Honors, from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He holds the Series 63 and 79 securities licenses.
