Jeff Bechtel, Managing Member of Mitchell, Hartley & Bechtel Advisers, LLC, is an experienced adviser to investment management organizations, related financial services businesses and their respective owners who are contemplating equity or asset sales, acquisitions, mergers, strategic partnerships, recapitalizations or other ownership restructurings. Mr. Bechtel’s exclusive focus at MHB is on advisory work and he is committed to providing high-quality conflict-free advice.

Prior to MHB, Mr. Bechtel was a Senior Vice President in the Financial Institutions Group at Jefferies & Company, where he led the firm’s asset management investment banking efforts in the Western US. Prior to joining Jefferies, he was a senior asset management banker at Putnam Lovell NBF, which he joined in 2002. At Jefferies and Putnam Lovell, Mr. Bechtel advised clients on numerous successful buy-side and sell-side transactions involving traditional long-only managers, alternative managers and related financial services firms. He represented clients on a variety of transaction engagements, including sales and purchases of both minority and majority equity stakes, full control sales, management buyout and recapitalization transactions, divestitures of business units and private capital raises.

Mr. Bechtel has served as an advisor to a range of leading asset management firms including Adelante Capital Management, Crestline Investors, Causeway Capital Management and ValueAct Capital Management. He has completed transactions in related industry segments for companies such as HedgeWorks and Renaissance Trading Technology. Mr. Bechtel has advised several large financial services firms on strategic asset management transactions including Religare Enterprises, TIAA-CREF and UBS. He has also represented clients on transactions with leading counterparties such as Affiliated Managers Group and Deutsche Bank, as well as a variety of financial investors.

Prior to joining Putnam Lovell, Mr. Bechtel spent five years at Bank One in the Mergers and Acquisitions and Corporate Finance Advisory Groups, where he advised clients across a range of industries on several successful buy-side and sell-side transactions.

Mr. Bechtel earned his Master of Business Administration degree from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance and Marketing, with Honors, from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He holds the Series 7, 24, 63 and 79 securities licenses.
